ACC Manager Blaine Williams Requests Central Services Director David Fluck Resign

Athens-Clarke County Government

Athens-Clarke County Central Services Department Director David Fluck has resigned at the request of County Manager Blaine Williams.

“After careful consideration, he decided it would be best for the community and the department for a change in leadership moving forward,” Williams said.

Fluck’s resignation was effective September 16.

His department consists of several divisions, including the Animal Control Division, which operates the Animal Shelter and Animal Control Services.

In July, 31 cats were euthanized after concerns regarding a suspected outbreak of feline panleukopenia.

The cat area was also under quarantine for two weeks.

The dog area was quarantined for two weeks earlier this month after three stray puppies tested positive for canine parovirus.

They were also euthanized.

Facilities Management, the Fleet Management Division and Landscape Management Division are also under Central Services.

David Fluck had worked in the Clarke County government for more than 12 years. During that time, he also briefly served as Interim Airport Director while the county conducted a search for a new director.

Williams has appointed Sustainability Officer Andrew Saunders to serve as Interim Director until a permanent replacement is named after a national search.
