ACC residents can weigh in on proposed transportation tax tonight

If TSPLOST 2023 passes in May, buses like this could be replaced by electric vehicles.

ACC residents will have another opportunity to weigh in on a list of proposed projects for TSPLOST 2023, a one percent sales tax to fund transportation improvements. Tonight’s public input forum will be hosted online, and information on joining the call is posted on the county’s website.

At their meeting on Tuesday, ACC commissioners saw a finalized list of proposed projects, including an extension of fare-free bus service, a host of sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements, and funding for electric vehicles. In all, the finalized list contains 36 projects, totaling about $144.5 million. Commissioners can still make changes to the list before they are scheduled to approve it early next month.

Some lawmakers have expressed reservations about the lack of funding for repaving projects in the TSPLOST list, while other commissioners noted that there are other funding sources for repaving.

Athens-Clarke County voters will have the final say, however. The TSPLOST proposal will be on the ballot in May.
