African Perspectives for June 7, 2020

With the impact of the ongoing pandemic on all of our lives, we decided to begin our summer offerings on our first show in June. This episode is part one of a two-part special on the genres and impact of music in Africa. The two shows focuses on the work ‘Introduction to Music in Africa’ from an African ethnomusicologist, Dr. Adeoluwa Okunade as part of our Summer School sessions on African Perspectives. In addition, the two specialized shows serve as introduction to our ever-popular five-week summer musical safari through the African continent. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including exciting soukous selections and music from two African music queens, Congo’s Madam M’bilia Bel and Benin’s Angelique Kidjo
