African Perspectives for November 15, 2020

This third episode in November continues the extended commemoration of twenty-four years of the show on Athens Public Radio station, WUGA. The episode features our plans for muted celebrations of the anniversary with music specials and fortnight African music CD giveaways. We will celebrate over the next two months or so by offering some of the music played in the first few months of our show. The focus in this episode is on highlife music, a popular African genre that originated in West Africa. In addition, the episode features news updates from South Africa, the Sahel and Kenya where a constitutional crisis is brewing. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selected highlife tunes from Nigeria’s Sunny Okosun and the West African Highlife Band.
