Athens Commission Discusses Clayton Street, River Access

visitathensga.com

Athens-Clarke County lawmakers meet this evening for a special session and their regular agenda-setting meeting.

The Commission actually begins its work at 5pm with a closed session to talk about real estate acquisitions, but the special session and agenda-setting meeting starts at 6. At the special session, lawmakers are expected to discuss revisions to streetscape improvements on Clayton Street, part of a SPLOST package passed by voters in 2018.

During the agenda-setting session, Commissioners will decide whether to vote on a variety of things at their meeting next month, including a potential renaming of the East Athens Community Center and the Lay Park gymnasium, river access at Macon Highway, and neighborhood traffic calming proposals. The 6pm meeting will be streamed live on the county’s YouTube Page.

According to the Athens Clarke County Government website, regular-session voting meetings normally take place on the 1st Tuesday of every month, and agenda-setting sessions occur on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. A full list of commissioners' names and the committees on which they serve, as well as more information about our local government, is also available at this website.
