Athens Cultural Affairs Commission Announces Winners of First Round of Funding

Athens Cultural Affairs Commission

The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission recently announced five Arts in Communities award recipients. According to an ACAC press release, the winning organizations were determined to be vital players in Athens’ cultural arts scene, and will each receive $1,500 to apply toward project expenses.

Awardees include ATHICA, which will use the funds to support its residency program, Culinary Kitchen, which will continue its Downtown Culinary Showcase, and Envision Athens, which will create an online Athens Artists Registry. Nuci’s Space will use the award to continue its ”Live from Home” concert series, and Canopy Studio will procure an outdoor, socially distanced performance space.

According to the press release, the winning projects were chosen from twenty-three submissions, each of which represents “the necessity to reinvent public art experiences during this unprecedented period of social distancing.”

Applications are currently open for the next round of Arts in Community Awards. The theme for this cycle is “Resilience,” in response to the Mayor and Commission’s approval of Resiliency Package funding to expand the program during the pandemic. Fifty awards of $2,000 each are available; the deadline for proposals is August 7.
