Athens for Everyone Planning Protest at Capitol

Athens for Everyone is preparing for a protest at the Capitol Monday. The grassroots action group is organizing rides to Atlanta for Clarke and Oconee County voters to protest the possibility of voters not deciding the next District Attorney.

Longtime DA Ken Maudlin is retiring February 29th, well before the end of his term in December.  As a result of a law passed in 2018, if Governor Brian Kemp appoints a replacement by May 3rd, six months before the general election, a special election will be held with the General Election.

If the appointment comes after May 3rd, that DA won’t face election until 2022.

The group is opposing that possibility.

For information on carpooling and rides to the event, visit the Athens & Oconee Demand Your Vote Facebook page. That protest is planned for Monday, February 17th at 11 am in Atlanta.
