Athens News Matters: Panel for 8/2/19

Journalist and communications consultant Kimberly Davis and Lee Shearer from the Athens Banner-Herald join Alexia Ridley to talk about the week in news and politics. This week: a midsummer progress report on the ACC Mayor and Commission, how proposed SNAP benefit cuts could affect our area, and a successful end to the Grand Slam summer program.

Editorial Note: A listener notes that because Clarke County Schools provide free meals to all students, there may be an effect on that program under the proposed SNAP rule changes, since that program is tied to the number of SNAP-eligible families.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
