From an early age, Alice Hughes knew that she wanted to leave her small town in rural Alabama for the big country of Australia. In this story, Alice tells her friend Dr. Nancy Hart about the few years she spent living in the Australian Outback, what brought her there, and the adventures she experienced. StoryCorps Athens stories were recorded locally at the StoryCorps mobile booth at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the Fall of 2018.
