Sophie Neupert was born with Williams Syndrome, a heart condition that has resulted in many surgeries throughout Sophie’s life. In this story, Sophie and her dad Richard Neupert talk about trips that the family have taken as a result of Richard’s job teaching French Cinema. The family had met French Director, Agnes Varda, who recently passed away in March of 2019. Varda was an influential female director; in 2017, she was the first woman in history to receive an honorary Academy Award. StoryCorps Athens stories were recorded locally at the StoryCorps mobile booth at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the fall of 2018.
