In this conversation, Dr. Tanya Cofer tells close friend Dr. Kathryn Locey stories about her late mother, Puerto Rican poet and former UGA faculty member Judith Ortiz Cofer.

They reminisce about what a wonderful poet and storyteller Cofer was, and discuss how her Puerto Rican heritage shaped her writing and her approach to motherhood.

StoryCorps Athens stories were recorded locally at the StoryCorps mobile booth at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the Fall of 2018. StoryCorps is part of a national initiative to record and preserve the stories of everyday people.
