Athens tops the list when comes to American cities for musicians.
CubeSmart created the list, focusing on cities that organizers considered ideal for musicians. Lily Rogers is a content editor involved compiling the list.
She says factors included cost of living, legendary music venues, and support for arts.
“You know we wanted to find unique and active music scenes, we wanted places that had resources like music collectives, supportive venues, affordable equipment shops, things like that,” Rogers said.
“We also wanted music that has come out of the city and really made an impact on culture. So, for all those reasons and more, Athens was the perfect fit because it hit all those notes.”
The Classic City stood out for being home to legends like the R.E.M and the B-52’s; as well as for its music venues.
“You know with legendary clubs and its music scene that has a history but also continued energy. It’s a great smaller city where you can really make your mark; so it was exactly the right city to top our list.”
18 cities made the list, with Athens beating out competitors including Austin, east Nashville, New Orleans and New York City.
