Athens Town Hall to Hear from Customers on Georgia Power Proposed Bill Hike

Georgia Power

Georgia Power customers can attend a town hall Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Athens-Clarke County Library to voice their concerns about Georgia Power’s proposed bill hike.

Georgia Power has proposed a raise in customers' bills through a combination of higher power rates and a mandatory monthly fee.

Some coalition groups, such as the Georgia Solar Energy Association and the Sierra Club, have voiced their opposition, saying the proposal will result in a customer loss in controling energy costs, equity issues and environmental setbacks.

"Customers who use the least amount of energy would be burdened with the largest negative proportional economic impacts— often seniors and working families earning lower incomes," a Southern Alliance for Clean Energy press release said.

The Public Service Commission hear from Georgia Power and third parties about the issue in a series of hearings and will determine by mid-December whether and how much of Georgia Power’s request will be granted.

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 17, 6:30 PM

WHERE: Athens-Clarke County Library, 2025 Baxter St., Athens, GA 30606
