Books for Keeps Holding 9th Annual Gigantic Book Sale

Books for Keeps is holding its 9th Annual Gigantic Book Sale beginning this week. This is the most important fundraiser for the Athens nonprofit, raising between $20 to $25 thousand dollars. Leslie Hale is Executive Director of the organization. She says thousands of book encompassing all genres will be available.

“This is the destination for all of the books that get donated to our organization that are not appropriate for giving away during in elementary school programming,” Hale said. “Books that are for adults, whether they’re cookbooks, or mysteries or the latest hardcover novels; also children’s books that are more heavily used than what we can give away in the schools that we serve.”

That means attendees will have a massive collection of tomes to choose from.

“We will give feature about 30,000 books for sale.”

Hale says they collect books all year long for the school book distribution as well as the book sale. In addition, the sale. Books for Keeps gives away more than 95,000 book during the school year. She says volunteers are always welcome.

“We worked with more than 1,000 volunteers in 2018 alone and they logged a total of 4,000 hours with our organization.”

Preview night is Thursday, August 15th, admission is $10. The sale opens to the public Friday, August 16 and Saturday the 17th from 10 am until 6 pm and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 pm, and Friday and Saturday, August 24th and 25th.  Admission is free for both weekends.

The sale takes place at 1860 south Barnett Shoals Road, next to Publix.
