Books for Keeps kicking off its first community book fair. The event replaces the nonprofit's annual book sale, which has been shuttered due to the pandemic. Executive Director Leslie Hale says the books’ warehouse is fully stocked.
"We thought that the best possible way that we could to put those books to use and use our warehouse space is to open it up to members of the community to come get books, totally free or for an optional donation, to fill up their books shelves, to fill their children’s bookshelves, to stock in a little free library, to support church or fellow nonprofit programming, the possibilities are endless but the overall point is, the books are free.”
There are books for children and adults, and community members can take up to 50 books per visit. There are several options available to receive the books.
“People can sign up for a spot to come shop in-person. We also have a request form, they can request books, again, for free just telling us what they are using them for and how many they need. Then we have one last opportunity, it’s a paid opportunity to request a grab bag of books by genre or by age grouping. It’s $10 for a grab bag of 10 books, available for contactless pick-up, starting the week of October 12.
