Busy Night Ahead for ACC Commissioners

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners have a busy night ahead, with nearly 50 items on the agenda at their meeting.

One vote facing lawmakers is a possible zoning variance for a proposed residential development on Pulaski Street.
Commissioners could also finalize plans for a long-discussed Eviction Prevention Program. The commission approved awarding a contract to administer the program to the Athenian First Development Corporation in October, but a finalized contract has yet to be voted on .
After approving the development of a controversial government-sanctioned homeless encampment off Barber Street back in August, the commission could also address the relocation of the existing homeless encampment off Willow Street.

Commissioner Tim Denson. “This is not the solution, this is part of the solution. This is coming from the folks who work with those people who are unhoused every single day.”

That project has received both strong opposition and support. There have been no recent updates after relocation of homeless encampment residents was slated for November, leaving many wondering about the well being of some of the city's most vulnerable citizens.
