Coronavirus Cases Still Rising in Georgia, Though Pace Slower

Local and state cumulative Coronavirus cases are still rising steadily, even though Monday’s reported cases are lower than last week’s numbers. There were 1,523 new cases reported today and 28 deaths. The total is now over 270,000 cases and approximately 5,632 deaths. There were only 32 hospitalizations due to the virus Monday.

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reported on August 30th that 46% of ER beds are now in use. 81% of critical care beds are in use, and 74% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. 37% of adult ventilators are in use. These numbers are in decline for the second week in a row.

According to the state health department, Clarke currently has had 2916 total cases and 26 total deaths. Barrow County has had 1737 cases and 37 deaths. Jackson County has had 1497 cases and 25 deaths. Madison County has had 535 cases with eight deaths, Oconee County is reporting 552 cases and 20 deaths, while Oglethorpe has had 281 cases and nine deaths.
