The state death toll from COVID-19 is nearing seven thousand. According to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health, officials are reporting 6,994 deaths, with more than 28-thousand people hospitalized, including some 5,225 in ICU. There are more than 316,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections in the state.
In Athens-Clarke County, the number of reported cases has topped 5,000; some 5,064 to be exact. Clarke is also reporting 44 deaths from coronavirus. Barrow County is reporting 2,200 cases and 48 deaths, Jackson county 2,004 cases and 32 deaths, Madison County is reporting 694 cases and eight deaths, Oconee has 750 cases and 26 deaths, while Oglethorpe County reports 330 cases and 11 deaths.
