Daniel Hutchens, musician, and member of the band Bloodkin, died on Saturday. He was 56. Hutchens came to Athens in 1986 with Bloodkin co-founder, Eric Carter, and the band quickly became just one of the many musical acts that defined the town between the 80s and 90s. Many of Bloodkin’s songs were covered by another popular Athens band, Widespread Panic, who called Hutchens and Carter their “greatest influence.” Hutchens was an accomplished musician and songwriter and had a hand in 10 albums over the course of his life, produced both as a member of Bloodkin and on his own as a solo artist.
