FC-CIS Hiring Neighborhood Leaders in Athens-Clarke County

Family Connection-Communities in Schools of Athens is working to fill 16 positions around Athens-Clarke County. Executive Director Tim Johnson says thanks to the approval of the Prosperity Package by the mayor and commission, the organization needs neighborhood leaders.

“These Neighborhood Leaders will help their neighbors connect to resources and supports, job, training, education, to reach their aspirations and to engage in community processes like responding to the census, registering to vote, voting,” according to Johnson. “Then the Neighborhood Leaders will also help inform our strategic planning work at Family Connection-Communities in Schools, local governments, planning Envision Athens and all of its committees.”

The jobs are full-time paid positions and they provide benefits including health insurance and retirement benefits.

Those applying must live in their Empowerment Zone, general knowledge of the community and community services, experience working the community, either paid or as a volunteer among other qualifications.

“The idea of having somebody who is in the community, of the community and with the community building their own community is the most powerful community development iterative that I’ve seen.”

And while applicants must have certain skills in order to complete reports for the commission, there are more important qualifications.

“So for us the most important qualification for these positions is to really have a passion and a heart to help your neighbors and your life experience is a more important qualification for these positions that your educational level.”

Applicants must also have a valid Georgia driver’s license, reliable vehicle and auto insurance. For more information or to apply, visit FC-CIS.org.

Applications are now being accepted. Candidates need a resume, cover letter and three job references.

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s Prosperity Package is an initiative of the Mayor & Commission to address poverty, social disparity, and wealth inequality in our community.
