FC-CIS Hosting Virtual Fundraiser, Honors Hank Huckaby

Family Connection Communities In Schools Athens is hosting its biggest fundraiser of the year this weekend.

The Changing the Picture Awards Dinner is going virtual this year due to the pandemic.

This year’s honoree is former University System of Georgia Chancellor, Hank Huckaby.

Funds raised at the event will be used to continue the work of FC-CIS in bettering the lives of children, youth, and families in Athens. The nonprofit works with other agencies and its site coordinators, who are located in area elementary schools, along with Neighborhood Leaders, who are located in each of the 16 prosperity zones in Athens. Attorney Lucy Atkinson is Board President.

"We had no idea a pandemic was coming, but we did know that our community needed support. With these neighborhood leaders, we got this in place and this pandemic would've looked a lot different in Athens if it were not for our neighborhood leaders who are able to help serve their communities. I really can't imagine what it would've looked like without them."

Neighborhood leaders help with immediate needs including food, shelter, coats, diapers, and connection with resources to help with rent and utility assistance, just to name a few.

The Changing the Picture celebration honoring Hank Huckaby is Saturday from 7 to 8 pm via Zoom.
