Gov. Brian Kemp Urges Georgians to Fill Out Census

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

With less than a week before the deadline, Governor Brian Kemp is urging Georgians to do the right thing and fill out the 2020 Census. The governor addressed residents Thursday.

“It is not too late to do that. Georgian’s response to the 2020 Census will directly affect representation and funding for our state throughout the next decade.”

Billions of dollars are at stake and Georgia’s share is dependent on Census figures.

“The federal government distributes over 675 billion dollars to the state based on Census data for healthcare, food, education, and roads. Our rural assistant programs receive critical resources based on response rates, and the peach state's congressional representation in Washington is directly tied to how many Georgians take part in the Census."

The governor issued a call to action and listed the four ways of participating: go online to My2020Census.gov, mail back the paper form received in the mail, answer the door to in-person Census takers, while social distancing, and by calling 1-844-330-2020 to participate by phone.

Athens Neighborhood Leader Somia Collins is organizing an event this Saturday to promote Census responses, encourage voter registration, provide school information and resources. It’s from 3 to 6 pm at Willowood Shopping Center on Lexington Road.
