Gov. Kemp's Statewide Shelter-in-Place Order in Effect Friday

All Georgians will be required to shelter-in-place as a result of Governor Brian Kemp ordering the statewide measure, effective as of 6 o’ clock this evening. The order will remain in effect until April 13.

It does allow Georgians to buy groceries, fill prescriptions, get medical equipment, exercise outside, go to doctors’ appointments and more.

In the order, all businesses, establishments, corporations, nonprofits or organizations not considered critical are only to engage in the minimum activities needed to maintain the organization.

All restaurants must stop providing dine-in service, but can provide takeout, curbside pick-up and delivery.

All gyms, bowling alleys, theaters, hair salons, live performance venues and more must close.

In a news conference Wednesday, Kemp said offenders will face consequences.

"The Georgia State Patrol is prepared to take appropriate action to ensure full compliance – no exceptions. The reality is that if you do not comply, you are violating the law, and you will be facing stiff penalties,” according to Kemp. “In Georgia, the safety and wellbeing of each citizen comes first. We will do what is necessary if people fail to comply.”

The restrictions could be extended if legislators extend a state public health emergency declaration that ends April 13.
