'The Great Catsby' Roaring 20's Fundraiser for Athens Area Humane Society

The Athens Area Humane Society is hosting the Great Catsby fundraiser Friday Evening. The State Botanical Garden is the setting for this year’s event. The roaring 20’s gala is a fundraiser for the facility. The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor-supported no-kill nonprofit organization, dedicated to lowering euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs. In 2017, the facility saw nearly 15-hundred adoptions, performed 5,000 spays and neuters. Board member Michelle Roche says the funds will be used to build a new, larger facility.

“All the proceeds will benefit Athens Area Humane Society…so that we can double our efforts with adoptions and spays and neuters,” Roche said. “It’s definitely going to be the biggest fundraiser of the year.”

She says those attending can expect a full evening of activities.

“We have a 7-piece jazz band, we’re going to have prohibition-era cocktails, food provided by Trump’s catering, a silent auction with everything from a six-night African safari, to gift baskets from REM, Widespread Panic, U.S Records, Urban Sanctuary, original pieces of art, of course, they’ll be dancing and garden tours.

It takes place Friday evening from 7 to 11 pm.
