Holidays Bring COVID-19 Increases to Athens-Clarke

COVID-19 cases in Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties continue to climb following the holidays.

As of yesterday evening, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported a total of 8,780 COVID-19 cases in Athens-Clarke County, with 916 new cases within the last two weeks. Clarke County's overall positivity rate is 7.9%, but the positivity rate within the last two weeks is almost double that, at 15.1%.

Oconee and Madison Counties are experiencing more severe outbreaks, with 1,835 total cases in Oconee County, and a two-week positivity rate of 25.1%. Madison County's total cases sit at 1,682, with a two-week positivity rate just shy of 30%.
