More Than 4,000 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Georgia

Death and case rates of Covid-19 reached alarming highs Friday. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, more than 4,000 new cases were reported Friday, as well as 92 deaths. There are now over 209,000 total cases and 4,117 deaths. There have also been 280 new hospitalizations from the virus.

As of August 5th, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reports that more than half of the state’s total ER beds are now in use, 87% of critical care beds are occupied, and 82% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. It should be noted that bed occupancy is not solely due to Covid-19, but also a variety of afflictions and injuries. There remains a 56% availability for ventilators.

According to the state health department, Clarke County is reporting 1,968 confirmed cases and 18 deaths. Barrow County has 1250 cases and 32 deaths. Jackson County has 1040 cases, 14 deaths. Madison County has 375 cases with five deaths, Oconee County is reporting 429 cases and 15 deaths, while Oglethorpe has 211 cases and seven deaths.
