New State of GA Rental Assistance Program Starts March 8th

Some Georgia renters may qualify for a state program that will provide financial assistance for past due rent and utilities.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs will begin administering the State of Georgia Rental Assistance Program starting Monday, March 8.

To be eligible, Georgians must qualify for unemployment benefits or have experienced financial hardship due directly or indirectly to COVID-19. They must also demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability and have a household income at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income.

That exact number varies by region and household size, but in Athens, it includes a family of 4 making $52,500 or less, as well as a single person making $36,750 or less.
