Republican congressman Jody Hice, who represents parts of Athens, led a failed charge to question Georgia’s electoral votes in a joint session of Congress early this morning. Hice, along with several of his Republican colleagues in Georgia’s delegation rose to protest the counting of Georgia’s votes in a move that was quashed by Vice-President Mike Pence. Under US law, for an objection to be considered, it must be submitted by at least one member of the House and the Senate. Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler, who originally announced her intention to object to Georgia’s votes, reversed course after pro-Trump protesters stormed the US Capitol.
