The American Red Cross is helping thousands of people in the Carolinas impacted by Hurricane Florence, but the agency is asking for assistance from the community.
The numbers are impressive for the agency. The Red Cross has helped to provide shelter for thousands of evacuees in more than 150 shelters in the Carolinas, provided more than 150,000 meals, rounded up nearly 3,000 disaster workers from around the country and mobilized more than 130 emergency response vehicles. But as Ronnika McFall tells us, the number of blood drives has plummeted.
“More than 170 blood drives have been forced to cancel due to Hurricane Florence resulting over 4,600 uncollected blood and platelet donations,” according to McFall. “We do ask that individuals outside the affected areas help by donating giving blood or platelets. People can also help by making a financial donation to support relief efforts.” donate
There is a critical need for type O blood donations.
