Red Cross Seeks Donors for Breast Cancer Awarness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the American Red Cross is asking donors to consider giving blood or platelets to help cancer patients battling the disease. Ronnika McFall is a spokesperson with the organization.

“According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 1.8 million people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in the US this year, and more than 276.000 of those individuals will have invasive breast cancer.”

Platelet donations fill a specific need.

“Blood platelet transfusions are often needed by patients with breast cancer or other types of cancer to help prevent life-threatening bleeding. More than half of all platelets collected by the Red Cross are used by cancer patients, we call our platelet donors our Cancer Kickers.”

The National Cancer Institute expects more than 1.8 million Americans to be diagnosed with cancer this year. More than 276,000 will have invasive breast cancer.

Those donating between October 15th and November 11th will receive a $5 Amazon gift card; and five who donate during October are entered to win a $1,000 gift card.
