Suspect in deadly North Ave hit and run turns herself in

A 31 year old Athens woman named as the suspect in a fatal hit and run last week has turned herself in to ACC authorities. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department says that at about 3:45 PM on December 22, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian down on the sidewalk on North Avenue, just south of Strickland Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the man was the victim of a hit and run. As a result of the investigation, ACCPD identified Amanda Gerrett as the driver of the hit and run vehicle. Gerrett turned herself in to the Clarke County Jail on December 27. She faces charges of First Degree Vehicular Homicide, Felony Hit and Run, and Failure to Maintain Lane.
