UGA-Clarke County Schools Partner for Camp DIVE 2017

Camp DIVE

The University of Georgia and Clarke County public schools are partnering for the second  annual Camp DIVE  Students will be spending the month of June immersed in history, reading, STEM projects and other subjects.

Over 90 students are taking part in Camp DIVE this year. Organizers say it's to help prevent 'summer slide,' where over the summer, students lose some of the academic gains they made during school year. Janna Dresden is the director of UGA's College of Education's Office of School Engagement. She says the effort is a true collaboration.

"The Clarke County school district gives us the space and the transportation, which is absolutely key," according to Dresden. "We would not be having this summer program without it, and they also provide breakfast and lunch everyday for the campers."

Dresden says the university provides the workers.

"On the College of Education side, we provide the people-power. And we also have done some fundraising locally to enable us to not only have really great activities during the week, but also on Fridays we take field trips."
