UGA Health Center Rolling Out Vaccine to Students and Staff

Students, staff, and faculty at the University of Georgia will soon be offered the COVID-19 vaccine based on an order of eligibility. The University health center will issue invitations to receive the vaccine following the governor’s announcement that everyone in the state over 16 will be able to receive a shot starting today. The first invitation for vaccination will be for those who have medical conditions that put them at greater risk from COVID-19. The second group vaccinated will be those ages 35 to 55 who do not suffer from a condition placing them at greater COVID risk, and the last group will be everyone over 16. Vaccinations will be administered by appointment and the health center will contact people directly when it is their turn. So far, 3,168 people on campus have received their first dose and 1,769 have received both doses. Meantime, Athens area health suppliers are gearing up to vaccinate all adults. These include Piedmont Hospital and its campuses, St Mary’s hospital, the Georgia Department of Public Health at its Clarke County location, and health departments in Barrow, Oconee, Jackson Madison, and Oglethorpe counties. The Athens Neighborhood Health Center, Several Athens pharmacies are also receiving doses including Hawthorne Drugs, Hodgson’s Pharmacy, and Horton’s Drugstore, plus major companies with pharmacies including all four Kroger locations, Publix at Georgetown Square and Athens Pointe, and Sam’s Club in Bogart.
