UGA Student Killed in Car Crash, Driver Charged with Vehicular Homicide

A Hartwell man is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a UGA student who was killed Wednesday on Timothy Road near the off ramp of the Athens loop.

Investigators say Edward Lee Stowers was heading northbound exiting the ramp to Timothy Road when he lost control and entered the southbound lanes of Timothy and struck a vehicle driven by 20 year old Drury Anderson Shierling of Leesburg Georgia.

A passenger in Shierling’s vehicle survived the collision. Stowers left his wrecked a car and persuaded another motorist to drive him to a nearby gas station. The driver then called 911 to report Stowers’ location.
