Winterville Marigold Festival

The city of Winterville is holding its annual Marigold Festival Saturday.
The Marigold festival began in 1971 and ran until 2002, before former mayor and current board member Emily Eisenman brought in back in 2009.
She says there are plenty of events beginning with a country breakfast at 6:30.

"You can come out real early as early as 6:30 in the morning," Esienman said. "It goes on until evening, probably 9 or 10 o' clock when the music ends. The bulk of the vendors, though will be open 9 to 5."

Breakfast is followed by the Marigold 10K, which is one of the longest-running races in the state, second only to the Peachtree in Atlanta, and new this year, an Eco-village.

"We have the Upper Oconee Watershed, of course, Athens-Clarke County Recycling is coming out," according to Eisenman.  "We've got the Hillsman Science and Energy Team. We have about ten or 12  who will have booths out there."

The festival also features lots of music, including headliner Michelle Malone. Visitors can park at the Baptist Church and ride the train back and forth to events.
