Celebrating 25 years of broadcasts on WUGA, African Perspectives examines current issues in Africa and celebrates African music and culture. The series also focuses on Africans living in Georgia and the Southeast and provides information about African-related activities on the University of Georgia campus. Host Akinloye Ojo is a native of Nigeria and a Ph.D.  in linguistics.

The episode features our plans for muted celebrations of the anniversary with music specials and fortnight African music CD giveaways. We are celebrating from November through December by offering African music CDs for our listeners.

This penultimate episode in November continues the extended commemoration of twenty-four years of our show on WUGA with fortnight African music CD giveaways. We will celebrate over the next two months or so and give away four African music CDs during the celebration. The show features news updates from Ghana, including the sudden death of Ghana’s long serving head of state, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings at the age of 73, and Ethiopia, especially the escalating military crisis in the Tigrayan region of the country.

The final episode in November continues the extended commemoration of twenty-four years of our show on WUGA. We will celebrate over the next two months and give away four African music CDs during the celebration. It is the final show in the anniversary month and the winner of fortnight #2 African music CD giveaway competition is announced. This episode also fulfils our promise to provide additional background on Ghana’s longest serving head of state, Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings who recently passed away at the age of 73.

The focus in this episode is on highlife music, a popular African genre that originated in West Africa.
