WUGA FM GABBY Award For Community Service

The Mission Statement of WUGA: Making a difference in quality of life by delivering programs that inspire curiosity about and engagement in the world, the arts, and the human condition. WUGA is operated by the University of Georgia in a partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting. WUGA is committed to serving its service area with broadcast and digital program content and reaching out to the community through meaningful and relevant events.

WUGA Artist in Residence Event for February!

In February WUGA is celebrating the work of local painter and sculptor Leonard Piha. His colorful paintings and complex, assembled structures have been exhibited or are on display at Athens Academy, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, the Chabad House and Hillel near UGA, and in outdoor installations in Georgia and Wisconsin. For years he taught art at Barnett Shoals Elementary School. People attending the year’s first Artists in Residence event -- on February 17th — will see Leonard’s home, studio, and gallery space, all filled with art.

African Perspectives at 20: A Celebration

Please join WUGA as we celebrate our longest-running local program, African Perspectives. The 20th Anniversary celebration will be held at The Foundry in Athens on Monday, November 13. Akinloye Ojo will host a special production of the program, which will be broadcast at a later date. Dance to the African rhythms, with guest performances by UGA African Students Union dancers, the African Fellowship of the Church of Nations choir, and Unitarian Universalists’ Palms of Fire drumming group.

WUGA Artist in Residence Event for October

The last Artists in Residence event this year will require about a half-hour trek east of Athens but will be well worth your time!

WUGA and Jazz Athens (JAGA) present the 2017 Athens Jazz Festival. 

Dates and venues:

Friday, 9/29: The Globe

Saturday 9/30: Hendershots

Sunday 10/1: The lawn of the Georgia Center and Hotel, located at 1197 S. Lumpkin Street, Athens.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase onsite. There is free parking around the GA Center and paid parking available in the South Campus Deck. This is a free concert featuring performances from a wide variety of outstanding musicians and singers.
