This episode is the third show in August. It features a healthy helping of enjoyable African music and
three news updates about both local developments and happenings on the continent. The episode reflects
on the ongoing changes to back to school experiences in the area due to the continuing effect of the
COVID19 pandemic on students, teachers and the entire community. It also provides announcements for
the forthcoming 2022 Africa Family Picnic scheduled for September 3, 2022, at Memorial Park here in
Athens. The episode continues to provide updates on the two new African languages being introduced at
UGA- Hausa and Zulu. These courses will be taught by two of the four FLTAs assigned to the university.
The episode reiterates the news that the US State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
(ECA) through the 2022-2023 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program is
providing the funds to sustain four African Fulbright FLTAs. Finally, the episode shares updates on eh
August 15 announcements of results for the recently concluded Kenyan Presidential elections. According
to the results, the current Deputy President William Ruto won the tight presidential race and setting him
up to become the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya. As always, the episode featured selected
enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including featured tracks from the Rough Guide to the
music of Kenya and Tanzania, and African Street Party.
