This first episode in October recognizes the African nations celebrating their political independence from European colonization in the month including Nigeria, Guinea, Lesotho, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea and Zambia. The episode underscores the elements that show Africa in a rather improved light featuring an unpretentious belief in Africa’s right to restoration. The episode also calls attention to both man-made and natural challenges facing the continent including the worsening security crisis in places such as Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Somalia, and Mozambique, the increasing political agitation across Northern Africa, and the draught situation in East Africa and the horn of Africa. The episode features the announcement of the 2022 African Studies Institute Fall Lecture scheduled for October 20, 2022. As always, the episode features selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including wonderful selections from Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, and the gospel singer, Tope Alabi.
