The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission are set to meet Tuesday at 5:30 for their regular monthly work session. In addition to the first of three public input sessions about the county's budget, Commissioners will hear a design review on the proposed Classic Center arena.

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are scheduled to meet tomorrow evening for what will be a busy – and likely long – evening for the Mayor and Commission.

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners voted this week on the creation of a western downtown historic district. However, the proposal has divided downtown property owners, as well as some ACC Commissioners. WUGA’s Jeanne Davis explains reasons behind opposing opinions and what the approval means for many building owners.

The mayor and commission approved a historic district for western downtown at a special called session last night.

The Athens Clarke County Mayor and Commission will have a special called session at 6 PM tonight.

The primary purpose of the meeting tonight is to vote on the Western Downtown Athens Local Historic District Designation. The goal of this designation is to turn western downtown Athens into a historic district, which will preserve the character and history of this area by preventing property owners from changing the exterior of their buildings.
