You might hear the name Athens Tango Project and think it's just another band you might see as part of the vibrant music scene here in Athens....but not only does this band offer a unique brand of music, consistent with the name, it's led by an artist with an equally distinctive sound and story. Feature Reporter Allison Salerno has more about how the band's founder hopes the music will broaden listeners' understanding of Latin American culture.

ER Doctors: Dealing with Stress in a Unique Way

A trip to the Emergency Room is never an easy thing. But the doctors who care for us in the ER face their own kind of stress. WUGA Feature reporter Allison Salerno stopped by St. Mary's Hospital in Athens to find out more about what's being done to both improve patient care and prevent doctor burnout, but she never imagined Guitars and Drums would be involved.

Sunday 10/1: The lawn of the Georgia Center and Hotel, located at 1197 S. Lumpkin Street, Athens.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase onsite. There is free parking around the GA Center and paid parking available in the South Campus Deck. This is a free concert featuring performances from a wide variety of outstanding musicians and singers. 

Over the course of the last 30 years WUGA Radio presented a live variety show that showcased the talents of various performers from the local community. Titled "Once in a Blue Moon", the name suggested the infrequency of the event, with most shows occurring around the stations anniversaries, every 5 to 10 years. However, the success of the show and the talent displayed meant audiences began to clamor for  it to be more often.

Vic Chesnutt Songwriter of the Year Award.

Recently WUGA's Program Director and Morning Edition Co-Host, Chris Shupe, was asked to participate in a new event focused on recognizing some of the best song writers in Athens. In this piece, Chris takes us along for the process, that ended with an amazing night of music that not only honored the participants but also legendary song writer the late Vic Chesnutt.
