Jesse Houle

An Athens-Clarke County Commissioner is facing a legal challenge in their path to office. District 6th Commissioner-Elect Jesse Houle has been named in a lawsuit challenging their victory.

Jesse Houle will probably take office in January as the Athens-Clarke County Commissioner for District 6, thanks to a quirk in Georgia’s election laws – a quirk that some district voters say is unfair and subversive of the will of the people.

Houle Declared Elected to District 6 Commission Seat

Jun 12, 2020

Candidate Jesse Houle will take over as the ACC District 6 Commissioner in the wake of Commissioner Jerry NeSmith's death last Saturday. The ACC Attorney's office has ruled all votes for NeSmith, who won the election, are declared void. The 71-year old NeSmith died in a fall at his home.

The county ruled a special election should be held on November 3, 2020 to fill the remainder of the current term and would run from after the election until the swearing-in of the new District Six Commissioner in January 2021.
