Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are set to vote tonight on safety improvements to the intersection of Hawthorne and Oglethorpe Avenues. That intersection was ranked as most in need of safety improvements by an ACC intersection improvement study.   “The Hawthorne-Oglethorpe Intersection was the intersection most in need of safety improvements.


  Two Athens-Clarke County police officers have been placed on administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting that left one subject dead. The incident occured at approximately 12:30PM at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Macon Highway.

  Speaking at a media conference this afternoon, ACCPD Chief Cleveland Spruill said that officers responded to reports of a knife-wielding man acting "erratically."
