Georgia Power Co. says delays in testing means the first new unit at its Vogtle plant is now unlikely to start generating electricity before January. The delay will add another $48 million to the cost of two nuclear units being built alongside two existing units near Augusta.

Teen Killed, Man Wounded in Athens Shooting

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating the shooting death of an Athens teen at the Stonehenge subdivision. According to a release from the department, the incident happened Monday in the 300 block of Marlborough Downs Road. 21-year old man was also shot.

ACC Commissioner Jesse Houle is one of several local lawmakers pushing their colleagues for a speedy implementation of Project RESET.

The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission meets tonight at 6pm.

This evening’s meeting is actually three meetings in one – the second of three state-mandated public input sessions on the county’s budget will start things off. The first public input meeting, held last week, elicited only two comments from Athenians.



Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are considering a program aimed at keeping people facing eviction in their homes, as well as providing financial assistance to landlords. Commissioner Tim Denson is pushing for the creation of Project Reset.
