Altanta Ranked Among Best Places to Start Career

WalletHub has ranked the best and worst cities to start a career and two Georgia cities made the list, but at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Georgia's capital city ranks among the best when it comes to getting that first job. The personal finance website WalletHub compared the 150 largest markets in the U.S., using 23 indicators of career friendliness. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says Atlanta is highly ranked.

"Atlanta is in the top 10, right at number six," according to Gonzalez.

She says the city has much to offer first-time workers.

Athens-Clarke County 10-Year Comprehensive Plan Update

The Athens-Clarke County government is beginning the process of updating the community-wide Comprehensive Plan.
The plan is a main source for identifying the vision, goals, policies, needs, opportunities, and work program over the next ten years. County Manager Blaine Williams says, though it's a separate effort, the plan will work with the Envision Athens study currently underway.

Early voting has begun in a nationally watched special congressional race in Georgia.
Democrat Jon Ossoff is trying for an upset over Republican Karen Handel in the GOP-leaning 6th Congressional District that stretches across greater Atlanta's northern suburbs.

GBI Issues Public Safety Alert

The GBI is issuing a Public Safety Alert regarding transdermal drugs being found in counterfeit pills.
A meeting was held Tuesday with the metro Atlanta Drug Enforcement Commanders to discuss officer safety and handling of extremely dangerous drugs being encountered at the GBI Crime Laboratory, including synthetic opioids found in counterfeit pills.   “Graveyard dead,” was the warning GBI Director Vernon Keenan gave during Tuesday's public safety meeting on the dangers of the use and abuse of synthetic opioids, with a heavy emphasis on fentanyl and fentanyl derivatives. 

Gas Prices Lower Than Expected in Georgia and Nation This Summer

While gas prices are slightly higher this week, Georgia was among a dozen other states seeing the lowest Memorial Day prices at the pump since 2005.

That's according to GasBuddy.com. Analysts say this may be a great summer to hit the road since summer gas prices are shaping to be quite a bit lower than expected. Average retail gasoline prices in Georgia have risen 1.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.20  yesterday. Prices in the state are more than six cents lower than last year.
