The University of Georgia reported 821 new cases of Coronavirus just last week, from August 24th to August 30th. This is a large increase from the 189 cases reported the week before. Of the 821 cases reported, 798 of them were students. President Jere Morehead released a statement calling this increase “concerning.” He urged students to follow guidelines and to consider their health and the health of those around them as we go into the Labor Day weekend.

Georgia’s 26 public universities and colleges will mandate campus-wide mask wearing after the state university system reversed itself on Monday.

The former Madison County police officer indicted for killing a University of Georgia graduate student in 2019 is now arguing his charges are invalid.

Winford Terrell Adams III is arguing his seven-count felony charges are invalid because he acted while in the performance of his duties as an officer. Adams filed a motion to quash the indictment in the Clarke County Superior Court, alleging he shot the 26-year-old student because he was "concerned for the safety and welfare of his wife," who was at the student's place of residence at the time of the shooting.

The University of Georgia is spending $300,000 to provide two washable cloth face masks and digital thermometers to UGA students and employees ahead of Phase 2 of its reopening plan.

The university began sending the items through mail on July 1st. As of early July, The University System of Georgia is not requiring the use of face coverings to minimize the virus spread, though "strongly encourages" wearing them.
