Athens-area residents will have the chance to see and celebrate a national exhibition.
“Spirited: Prohibition in America” is opening at the Richard B. Russell Library Thursday. The exhibit tells the tale of Prohibition in the United States. In addition to the taking a tour, those attending will also sample two of the cocktails created during the era. Jan Hebbard is Outreach Archivist with the library. She says the exhibit tells the complicated history of the “wets” versus the “drys.”
“And it comes to us as part of the NEH on the Road Program, which is founded by the National Endowment of the Humanities,” according to Hebbard. “And basically they scope out exhibitions at major institutions across the country and the they create smaller traveling versions of those exhibits that they can send out to smaller museums and galleries around the country.”
The event begins Thursday evening at 5 o’ clock. It is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs through October 20th. Hebbard says attendees will be carded since cocktails be available for sampling.
