Applications are now being accepted for designs for new bus shelters in Athens. The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission invites artists or teams to submit designs for bus shelter art that will be a part of the new structures for the Athens Transit System. Selected artists will work with the Commission and government staff to create public art that enhances the systems and people’s experience of it.
Athens is already known for having artist-designed bus shelters. Between 2005-2009, the Athens Area Arts Council commissioned 11 bus shelters, created by local artists and installed along various bus lines. The new shelters are being funded by ACAC, SPLOST and the Athens Transit System. Designs for two types of shelters are being accepted.
The application deadline is Sunday, July 27, 11:59 pm. An information seminar will be available for interested artists. For more information, visit www.accgov.com.
