Athens for Everyone announced its endorsement of Stacey Abrams and her campaign for Georgia’s governorship.
The groupdescribes itselfon its website as a “left-progressive political organization” that focuses on local and state level elections.
A4E said in a press release that Abrams “has the right experience and values” to take the group’s story in a new direction.
Abrams’ stances on platforms including Medicaid, education, healthcare, mass incarceration, inequality and housing were also mentioned as reasons A4E will support the campaign.
A focus was also on Georgia’s voting system, which is currently within the purview of Abrams’ opponent, Brian Kemp. Secured voting machines, expanded early voting, easing voter registration and a “rigged” campaign finance system were of concern to both A4E and Abrams.
Part of its efforts resulting from the endorsement will be mobilizing members “to canvass, phonebank and raise hell to elect Stacey Abrams.”
