The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is hosting a Town Hall meeting with police chief Cleveland Spruill. Mokah Jasmine Johnson is President and Co-founder of the AADM.
“It’s a meet-and-greet to where we can get to know our new police chief and where the community can come out and ask any questions, and we can also find out how we can connect better moving forward,” Johnson states.
Johnson says it’s an opportunity to hear what the Chief’s plans are regarding issues that affect various communities.
“We would love to know his opinions about race relations, and community policing, and transparency, and what is his plan for our city?” Johnson says.
The group is also trying to increase community participation.
“We also want to rally support around possibly having a citizens’ advisory panel where people from the community, especially those disenfranchised communities, can be a part of what goes on in their community,” Johnson says.
Members of the Athens’ Immigrant Rights Coalition will be in attendance and local leaders are invited to the conversation as well.
Those interested can drop in or submit questions at www.aadmovemnt.org.
The discussion takes place tomorrow at the Athens library on Baxter Street beginning at 6 p.m.
